Competitions (The Ballcock)

Competition Introduction

Gentlemen, each year, OHG adopts a theme. This year, we turn our attention to a quietly essential piece of British engineering:

The Ballcock Valve

For those less familiar, it is the small but vital mechanism within a toilet cistern — a floating ball connected to a valve, rising and falling with the water level to regulate flow, maintain balance, and ensure the system neither overfills nor runs dry. Simple in design…   At its core, it reflects  a system built on balance, control and timing straightforward in principle…yet, as we all know, not always so easy in execution. Just like the game of golf.  Or more crudely it has the words ball and cock in it which makes it more fun for the organiser to fill every moment with crude puns which amounts to some form of toilet humour.

Across the week, performance will, of course, be recognised. Those demonstrating the highest levels of control will receive the ‘ball’ part of the ballcock. Those  operating somewhere in the middle will be acknowledged for their central role, with the “cock” of the  ballcock. And for those at the bottom, a more modest token of appreciation will be provided — a ‘cock &ball” proportionate, one might say, to the output observed. And if all this is too much for you…. Just go with ‘the organiser was a bit tipsy and decided to use this society to bo on his toilet humour crusade, let him go on his merry way’

THE ROLLING COMPETITIONS:

  1. Best individual overall (£20)
  2. Knock outs winner (£20)
  3. Red v blue (£60per team;  Each player must £10)

THE DAILY COMPETITIONS

  1. Individual top stableford (£5 per day, £20 for shield day0
  2. Team “coloured ball’ games each day £5 for each ream member, of the winning team)

Orange Ball

Scoring:  the stableford points of the player with the orange ball multiplied by highest score from other team members.  If orange  Ball is lost, no further scoring.

Pink Ball

Scoring; If pink Ball scores one point or more points, the all team members stablefords score counts towards the teams score. If pink ball scores 0, then team score is 0. If the pink ball is lost, no further scoring, however at hole 9, if blue ball is lost, a new blue ball is issued.

The coloured ball team comps

Each day each team will be given a coloured ball. These balls rotate between the team from hole to hole. So each player gets chance to feel the pressure a coloured ballcock brings.

Yellow Ball

Scoring:  the stableford points of the player with the yellow ball counts to the team score. If the yellow ball is lost …no further scoring.

Green Ball

Scoring:  the stableford points of the player with the green ball counts to the team score + highest score from other team members. If Green Ball is the highest score → it is counted twice. If Green Ball is lost, only the highest score counts thereafter.
